Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited organized a day-long workshop on “Account Opening: Procedures and Documentation” for officials of the Bank. Mr. K.S. Tabrez, Managing Director of the Bank inaugurated the workshop as Chief Guest on July 25, 2015 at the Bank’s Training Wing, Dhaka. The workshop aimed at familiarizing the participants with the updated procedures of account opening and the importance of documentation.

Mr. K. S. Tabrez in his speech said that with the increase of economic activities and economic inclusion of a greater number of people, more individuals and organizations are coming within the purview of banking services and thereby throwing a challenge for the bankers to keep the banking institution safe from illegal use by unscrupulous elements. He also mentioned- as account opening is the first step for getting banking facilities of a customer, it is extremely important to exercise due caution in account opening process. It is essential to maintain proper KYC (know your customer), TP (transaction profile) and documentation, he emphasized.

Among others, Mr. A. H. M. Zahurul Islam, Executive Vice President, Training Wing of DBBL was present in the workshop.

Dutch-Bangla Bank donated 10,000 blankets to earthquake victims of Nepal which caused death of thousands of people besides colossal damage to infrastructure. Mr. K.S. Tabrez, Managing Director of Dutch-Bangla Bank handed over a sample of the blankets to His Excellency Hari Kumar Shrestha, the ambassador of Nepal in Bangladesh at a function held at a hotel in Gulshan, Dhaka on 1st June, 2015. Dr. Atiur Rahman, Governor of Bangladesh Bank was present at the function organized by Green Banking & CSR Department of Bangladesh Bank.

In continuation of social cause program, Dutch-Bangla Bank awarded scholarship to 4,100 students as the 10th phase who passed H.S.C/ equivalent examination in 2014. Including this 10th phase 20,495 students are receiving DBBL scholarship at present. Mr. Abul Maal A. Muhith, MP, Hon’ble Minister for Finance, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest and handed over the Scholarship Awarding Letters to the recipients at a ceremony held at Shaheed Shohrawardi Indoor Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on May 16, 2015 while the honorable Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. Anisul Huq, MP, and H.E. Mr. Gerben de Jong, the hon’ble Ambassador of Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bangladesh were present as Special Guests. Mr. Sayem Ahmed, Honorable Chairman, Board of Directors of Dutch-Bangla Bank presided over the function. Mr. K.S. Tabrez, Managing Director of the bank was also present at the function.

Hon’ble Minister Mr. Abul Maal A. Muhith in his oration profusely lauded the scholarship program of Dutch-Bangla Bank and recalled other Philanthropic activities of the Bank. He appreciated the DBBL’s continuous humanitarian and welfare activities and termed this Scholarship program as a unique example of helping the meritorious and needy students of the country. He expected that all the corporate bodies of the country would come forward with such programs for the benefit of the society.

Hon’ble Minister Mr. Anisul Huq lauded the role of DBBL in connection with philanthropic activities to stand by the distress people of the country, adding that DBBL is also a pioneer in providing modern banking services to its clients. He congratulated the scholarship awardees and expected that they would dedicate themselves by achieving real education.

While speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gerben de Jong appreciated Dutch-Bangla Bank Foundation for its generous initiative to build the future of the underprivileged students which would go a long to the development of the human resources of the country. He also congratulated the students who got DBBL’s Scholarship.

Mr. Sayem Ahmed, Honorable Chairman, Board of Directors of Dutch-Bangla Bank in his speech said that since inception, as a responsible corporate body, DBBL has been playing a pioneering role in implementing social and philanthropic programs to help disadvantaged people of the society. A number of sectors are on the priority list of the bank including education, healthcare, and rehabilitation of distressed people where the bank carries out its social and philanthropic activities. He also mentioned that DBBL’s scholarships of all level are awarded to at least 90% of the students coming from rural areas and again at least 50% to girl students. The Chairman extended his gratitude and thanks to the Hon’ble Ministers for attending and gratifying the scholarship awarding ceremony.

Dutch-Bangla Bank organized a day-long workshop on “Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing - Review of Combating Ability” for the branch managers, deputy managers and BAMLCOs of the Bank. Mr. M. Mahfuzur Rahman, Executive Director and Deputy Head of BFIU, Bangladesh Bank inaugurated the workshop as Chief Guest on May 08, 2015 at the Bank’s Training Wing, Dhaka while Mr. K.S. Tabrez, Managing Director of DBBL was present as Special Guest. The workshop mainly focused on assessing and reviewing the Bank’s combating ability with respect to prevention of money laundering and terrorists financing. Resource persons and anti money laundering experts conducted various sessions in the workshop.

Mr. M. Mahfuzur Rahman in his speech said that status of the country’s ability to combat money laundering and terrorists financing have improved significantly over the years. BFIU used to monitor the ability of the reporting organizations and provide necessary guidance and trainings to improve combating process. He advised the participants to exercise due caution in account opening process and strengthen transaction monitoring efforts to prevent money laundering. He emphasized on the proper KYC (know your customer) as well as KYE (know your employee) to protect the banking institution from any attempt of money laundering and terrorists financing activities by the criminals.

Dutch-Bangla Bank donates Tk. 100.0 million to Faridpur Diabetic Association to meet up the cost of construction of 5 floors (11th to 15th floor) of the Diabetic Association Medical College & Hospital Building at Jhiltuly, Faridpur. In this regard an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) was signed between Faridpur Diabetic Association and Dutch-Bangla Bank on 6th May, 2015 at Bank’s Head Office, Dhaka. Mr. Mir Nasir Hossain, President of Faridpur Diabetic Association & Chairman, Governing Body, Diabetic Association Medical College & Hospital and Mr. K.S. Tabrez, Managing Director of Dutch-Bangla Bank have jointly signed the MOU on behalf of their respective organizations.

Faridpur Diabetic Association, a non-profit voluntary socio-medical service organization established in 1983 to serve the distressed humanity who have been suffering from the curse of non-curable disease of diabetes-mellitus. They have taken initiatives to construct the 11th to 15th floors of the hospital building for providing utmost services to the diabetic patients.
While exchanging views, Mr. Mir Nasir Hossain extolled the philanthropic activities carried out by Dutch-Bangla Bank and mentioned that Dutch-Bangla Bank is the pioneer of CSR activities in the financial sector of Bangladesh. Referring to this donation, he expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the Bank’s Board of Directors. Dutch-Bangla Bank holds 19th AGM (Annual General Meeting)

The 19th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited was held on March 30, 2015 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka under the Chairmanship of Mr. Sayem Ahmed, Chairman, the Board of Directors of the Bank. The honorable Chairman welcomed the honorable Shareholders’ present in the AGM.

The Bank declared Cash Dividend @ 40% (i.e. Taka 4 per share of Taka 10 each). A lot of Shareholders’ participated in the discussion on the overall performance of the Bank in the AGM.

Among others, honorable Directors of the Board including Mr. Abedur Rashid Khan (Chairman, Executive Committee of the Board of Directors), Mr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Mr. Md. Nazim Uddin Bhuiyan, FCMA (Chairman, Audit Committee of the Board of Directors), Mr. Mohd. Khorshed Alam, the Managing Director of the Bank Mr. K. S. Tabrez and Company Secretary Mr. Md. The Audited Financial Statements of the Bank for the year ended December 31, 2014 were placed before the meeting and the members discussed the performance of the Bank. The honorable members expressed their satisfaction with the activities of the Bank during the year 2014.

Total assets of the Bank as at 31 December 2014 stood at Taka 215,993.5 million compared to Taka 185,537.3 million of 2013 registering a growth by Taka 30,456.2 million or 16.4%. Loans and advances of the Bank stood at Taka 124,423.0 million at the end of 2014, a growth of 16.9% over Taka 106,422.8 million at the end of 2013. The deposits grew by Taka 21,532.2 million in 2014 from Taka 145,230.1 million to Taka 166,762.3 million showing a growth of 14.8%.

In 2014, profit before tax increased by 27.4% and stood at Taka 4,518.8 million compared to Taka 3,547.0 million in 2013. Profit after tax increased by 10.3% and stood at Taka 2,206.6 million compared to Taka 2,000.8 million in 2013. During the year under review, earnings per share attributable to shareholders amounted to Taka 11.0 compared to Taka 10.0 during the previous year. Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) under Basel II stood at 13.8% against the Bangladesh Bank minimum requirement of 10.0%.

The meeting unanimously reappointed M/s. Hoda Vasi Chowdhury & Co. as the auditor of the Bank for the year 2015.

43rd Foundation Training Course of DBBL Starts

A four week long 43rd Foundation Training Course for the Officers of Dutch-Bangla Bank has been started at the Training Wing of DBBL. The Managing Director of the Bank Mr. K.S. Tabrez inaugurated the course on March 28, 2015 at the Bank’s Training Wing, Gulshan, Dhaka.

The course is designed aiming at familiarizing the participants with the concepts, principles, rules, regulations, laws and practices of Banking.

In his inaugural speech, Mr. Tabrez emphasized the need for continuous training for the officers to enrich knowledge of practical Banking, development of skills and attitude and to perform their job effectively. He mentioned that through training the Human Resource can be turned into a desired workforce to cope and adjust with any changes in the business strategy and meet the challenges in future.

Among others, Mr. A. H. M. Zahurul Islam, Executive Vice President of Training Wing of DBBL also spoke on the occasion.

Dutch-Bangla Bank opens its 146th Branch at Banani Bazar

Dutch-Bangla Bank opened its 146th Branch at Banani Bazar (House#141, 1st Floor, Road#12, Block-E, Banani, Dhaka) on 25th March 2015.

Mr. K.S. Tabrez, Managing Director of the Bank formally inaugurated the Banani Bazar Branch. A Milad Mahfil on the occasion was held seeking blessings of the Almighty Allah for successful operation of the Branch, prosperity of the business community, depositors and stakeholders of the Bank.

Dutch-Bangla Bank provides a wide range of Banking products and financial services including Card services to its retail and corporate customers. The new Branch will provide truly on-line banking facilities to the clients. The total number of the ATM and Fast Track networks of the Bank stands at 2,705 and 364 respectively all over Bangladesh.

DBBL introduced Mobile Banking Services in 2011 for the first time in Bangladesh to bring huge number of     un-banked population of the country, particularly, in rural/remote areas into banking channel.

“5th Dutch-Bangla Bank Golf Tournament 2015” Closing & Prize Distribution Ceremony held

The Closing and Prize Distribution ceremony of 5th Dutch-Bangla Bank Golf Tournament-2015 was held on February 28, 2015 at Shaheen Golf and Country Club Patenga, Chittagong. The program was organized by Shaheen Golf and Country Club, Patenga, Chittagong and sponsored by Dutch-Bangla Bank. Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Mohammad Enamul Bari, BBP, ndu, psc graced the occasion as Chief Guest and distributed the prizes amongst the Winners. Mr. Abul Kashem Md. Shirin, Deputy Managing Director of Dutch-Bangla Bank was present on the event as Special Guest. Among others, Air Commodore Md Humayun Kabir, ndc, psc, Air Officer Commanding, BAF Base Zahurul Haque, senior officials of Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force were present on the occasion.
