Dutch-Bangla Bank awards scholarships to 2,518 students

In continuation of social cause program Dutch-Bangla Bank awarded scholarship to 2,518 students as the 8th phase who passed HSC/Equivalent examination in 2013 studying at Graduation level in different University/Colleges of the country. Mr. Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, MP, Hon’ble Minister for Finance, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest and handed over the Scholarship Awarding Letters to the recipients at a ceremony held at Shaheed Shohrawardi Indoor Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on February 01, 2014 while Mr. Gerben de Jong, the Ambassador of Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bangladesh was present as Special Guest. Mr. Sayem Ahmed, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of DBBL presided over the function. Mr. K.S. Tabrez, Managing Director of the bank was also present at the function.

Hon’ble Minister Mr. Abul Maal Abdul Muhith in his oration profusely lauded the scholarship program of Dutch-Bangla Bank and recalled other Philanthropic activities of the Bank. He appreciated the DBBL’s continuous humanitarian and welfare activities and termed this Scholarship program as a unique example of helping the meritorious and needy students of the country. He expected that all the corporate bodies of the country would come forward with such programs for the benefit of the society.

While speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gerben de Jong appreciated Dutch-Bangla Bank Foundation for its generous initiative to build the future of the underprivileged students which would go a long to the development of the human resources of the country. He also congratulated the students who got DBBL’s Scholarship.

Chairman, Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of Dutch-Bangla Bank in his speech said that since inception, as a responsible corporate body, DBBL has been playing a pioneering role in implementing social and philanthropic programs to help disadvantaged people of the society. A number of sectors are on the priority list of the bank including education, healthcare, and rehabilitation of distressed people where the bank carries out its social and philanthropic activities. He also mentioned that DBBL’s scholarships of all level are awarded to at least 90% of the students coming from rural areas and again at least 50% to girl students. The EC Chairman extended his gratitude and thanks to the Hon’ble Minister for attending and gratifying the scholarship awarding ceremony.

In continuation of social cause program Dutch-Bangla Bank awarded scholarship to 4,057 students as the 7th phase who passed S.S.C Examination in 2013. Mr. Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, MP, Hon’ble Minister for Finance, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest and handed over the Scholarship Awarding Letters to the recipients at a ceremony held at Shaheed Shohrawardi Indoor Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on September 21, 2013 while Mr. Gerben de Jong, the Ambassador of Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bangladesh was present as Special Guests. 2,030 students get Dutch-Bangla Bank scholarships

In continuation of social cause program Dutch-Bangla Bank awarded scholarship to 2,030 students as the sixth phase who passed H.S.C Examination in 2012. Taka 30.00 crore will be expended for awarding scholarship to the 2,030 students of this phase for their full academic period. Mr. Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, MP, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Finance, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest and handed over the Scholarship Awarding Letters to the recipients at a ceremony held at Shahid Shohrawardi Indoor Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on December 22, 2012 while Mr. Gerben de Jong, the Honorable Ambassador of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Dhaka was present as the Special Guest. Mr. Sayem Ahmed, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of DBBL presided over the function. Mr. K.S. Tabrez, Managing Director of the bank was also present at the function.

Hon’ble Minister Mr. Abul Maal Abdul Muhith lauded the role of Dutch-Bangla Bank in the field of education by way of awarding scholarships to the needy students. He underscored the need of support and cooperation of all corporate bodies for the underprivileged students in the country. He thanked DBBL for the initiative to give scholarships to the meritorious and needy students for helping the spread of education.

Mr. Sayem Ahmed, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Bank in his address informed that Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited, over and above its regular financial activities, always reaches to the destitute of the country by way of carrying out a wide range of philanthropic activities in various fields like, education, health-care, human resource development, conservation of forest etc. He also mentioned that 80% of the scholarships are awarded to the students coming from rural areas. The EC Chairman extended his gratitude and thanks to the Hon’ble Minister for attending and gratifying the scholarship awarding ceremony.

DBBL has declared Tk 1.0 b scholarship project

Dutch Bangla Bank Ltd (DBBL) has declared a Tk 1.0 billion scholarship project, which will cover 30,000 needy but meritorious students every year by 2016. The bank officials disclosed details of their recent corporate social responsibility (CSR) endeavour at a city hotel on Saturday,February 12,2011.

DBBL Chairman Abedur Rashid Khan said, “Creating opportunities for the deprived ones, reducing discrimination in education sector, and establishing the rights of poor people are at the core of our spirit for launching this programme.”

DBBL officials informed the media that every year the bank awards scholarships to 575 SSC and HSC students. “We have realised this number is not enough to cover all the needy students across the country, and so, we would upgrade the number to 30,000 by 2016″, Mr Khan said.

“This big project to support the country’s education sector would require a total amount of Tk 1.02 billion”, Chairman of the executive committee Sayem Ahmed said.

Board directors Zaheed Hossain Khan, Dr Irshad Kamal Khan, Dr Syed Fakhrul Ameen ,Md Fakhrul Islam and K.S. Tabrez,Managing Director of DBBL were also present on the occasion.

DBBL has decided to award financial support to 5,000 SSC and HSC students this year. According to the official data revealed by Bangladesh Bank, DBBL spent more than Tk 159 million in various CSR activities in 2009. The total expenditure stood at Tk.2080 million.

Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited awarded Fellowships to the scholars conducting researches in different fields of Social, Biological, Medical, Agricultural, Engineering and Natural sciences to pursue M. Phil, Doctoral and Post Doctoral degrees at a simple ceremony held at Hotel Purbani International, Dilkusha, Dhaka on December 14, 2009. Dr. Atiur Rahman, Governor, Bangladesh Bank was present as the Chief Guest and awarded Fellowships among the scholars. Mr. Sayem Ahmed, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of DBBL presided over the function. Mr. Md. Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Governor of Bangladesh Bank was present as the Chief Guest and handed over the Scholarship Awarding Letters to the recipients in a simple ceremony held at a local hotel on February 18, 2008. Mr. Md. DBBL awards scholarships to the meritorious and needy Students

Under the DBBL-Scholarship Program, Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited awarded scholarship to 150 meritorious and needy students including 6 Blind students who passed HSC Examination in 2005 and studying at graduate level in different Universities/Colleges of the country. Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed, Managing Director, Palli Karma Sahayok Foundation (PKSF) was present as the Chief Guest and gave away the Scholarship Awarding Letters to the recipients at a simple ceremony held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium, Dhaka on June 27, 2006.
